It is indeed a sign of affection when a cat licks you. The photo above is typical - the cat steadies your hand in its paws and then scrapes its tongue over your skin...there's no escape!

Cats enjoy licking themselves as well, and those of us who own dogs are grateful that our cats are so self-maintaining. I love how a cat focuses while licking. The eyes close to block out any other sensory information while it concentrates on task at hand.

It always amazes me how much they can make us laugh and make us feel better. Part of what makes them so funny is that they don not know they are being funny. The timing, the delivery, the execution, the originality, it is all there. It is silliness they are born with and begin using from kitten-hood right through to their adult Cat life.

Great Pictures of Cats And Dogs

This gallery of pictures of cats and dogs may move your cute-meter off the scale! A mixture of natural and studio shots showing that cats and dogs don't have to be enemies and can in fact be great companions. Seems only logical since so many share households. Unfortunately, these sorts of shots are not possible in my household. We call our little Chihuahua-cross, Constable Toffi, because she feels its her duty to bark an alert whenever our feline darlings enter prohibited territory on the kitchen benches or behave criminally by sharpening claws on my favorite chair.

House Cats in Basins

My cats have never slept in basins...I think that's why these photos caught my attention. Basins are hardly soft and warm; however, they clearly cradle a curled cat very well. Of course, like most cats, mine have spent plenty of time in the kitchen sink, but not sleeping of course!
