Licking Cat Photos

It is indeed a sign of affection when a cat licks you. The photo above is typical - the cat steadies your hand in its paws and then scrapes its tongue over your skin...there's no escape!

Cats enjoy licking themselves as well, and those of us who own dogs are grateful that our cats are so self-maintaining. I love how a cat focuses while licking. The eyes close to block out any other sensory information while it concentrates on task at hand.

I can't keep a straight face when I look at pictures of cats. If you're like me, you're either smiling at their sweetness or laughing at their antics.

I've started to wonder about what attracts us to cuteness. Why do I melt at the sight of animals, particularly baby animals? 

I discovered that our attraction to cuteness is universal, and fortunately healthy. According to Professor James Serpell, an animal welfare researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, looking at pictures of cute animals online has immediate positive effects on our wellbeing. Our blood pressure and heartrate relax during those moments of wonder.

We humans are essentially social animals and having the company of animals as well as other humans is important to us.

We seem to be hardwired, however, to respond to babies and other young animals that can't care for themselves. Austrian zoologist, Konrad Lorenz first noted that people are attracted to juvenile
characteristics such as large foreheads, big eyes, chunky limbs and a clumsy walk. We are drawn to them and feel protective towards them. Makes sense from an evolutionary perspective.

Sleepy Cat Pictures

Why are sleeping cats so appealing? Why do I feel more than the usual urge to touch and cuddle a sleeping cat? Hardly seems fair...terribly selfish...the poor cat is in its own world, totally relaxed and I can hardly restrain myself from running my fingers across its fur. So darn adorable! And if they're not looking good enough to squish, they're soooo funny, like the cat in the photo above. My Burmese adopts postures like that, bless him. That's why I love cats...they're just a feel-good bundle of delight (sorry to those of you struggling with aggression or spraying problems - there really IS a good reason why you love them).

Spooky is Missing!

Spooky went missing last Friday and we been looking for him all weekend. We thought he might have been hiding somewhere in the house but we’ve looked in every room and under every piece of furniture for him with no luck.
Some how he managed to get out of the house without us noticing. We spent the entire weekend looking for him all over the neighborhood. It’s as if he has disappeared. He was with us at dinner time on Friday night and when I came to feed the cats an hour or so later Spooky didn’t show up.

Of all the Disney Picture of Cats Characters, the cartoon cat or the Disney Cat has always been a part of Disney’s animated films.
